Current Champions
Hector Garza and Mistico are the 27th Champions, winning a rematch for the vacant championships over Averno & Mephisto.
History of Championship
25: Averno & Mephisto won a 16 team tournament to get a title shot and then defeated Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero to win the championship for the second time on February 1, 2008. Upon winning the belts, they were invited to join Los Perros del Mal. They eventually accepted, while Hector Garza left the group to protest their inclusion. Averno and Mephisto had no known title defenses during their short reign.
26: Mistico & Hector Garza had never teamed prior to their title match, but still beat the champions in a non-televised match in Arena Puebla. This was the 2nd major title change in the arena in 7 months, and appeared to be part of solidifying Garza as a new tecnico and building him up for his pending hair match with El Hijo del Perro Aguayo. Averno and Mephisto were now Perro's main lieutenants and the reason Hector split from Perros del Mal (as well as continual nuisances to Mistico), so Hector was able to win the titles and get some revenge leading into the Dos Leyendas match.
Six weeks later, the two teams had a rematch in Arena Mexico. Most of the other matches in the the Perros vs Mistico/Hector/others rivalry were concluded by illegal acts, but this match was never concluded because of too much rule breaking. The third fall had fouls, referee Tigre Hispano accidentally dropkicked and eliminated wrestlers came back in to stop counts. After the last bit, the Box Y Lucha commission stopped the match and declared the titles held up.
V: Upon further review of the commission, the championship was officially declared vacant, but the commission also declared the two teams involved were the most deserving of the titles, so a rematch for the titles was announced. CMLL and the commission agreed to have the match take place on the May 23rd show at Arena Mexico.
27: Garza & Mistico won the championship back in the May 23rd match, cleanly defeating their opponents.
