Current Champion
Championship Status
Averno is the current champion. He defeated Myzteziz on September 16th, 2015 in Arena Neza. The WWA championships are largely unregulated at present time. There's at least two titles floating around, one in Monterrey and one in Tijuana. There may be more.
History of Championship
According to La Frontera, a Tijuana newspaper, in 2001, Solar I was the last person seen with the WWA World Middleweight Title. He took the belt with him and its assumed he dropped it to Blue Panther some time in late 2001, as Panther was seen the defending the title in early 2002.
In 2003, Promociones Mora started running TV Tapings for a new televised lucha libre show to air in Tijuana, and then abroad. Before the tapings in another article in La Frontera, they spoke of Raging Dawg winning the World Middleweight Title beforehand in Southern California, so most likely it was awarded it to him and that's why he was defending it against Nicho in June of 2003.
So rather than get the original belt back from Blue Panther, they just decided to create a new version of the middleweight title. Either they just wanted a fresh start, or Panther was holding up the belt for money or for other reasons, we may not now. This is supported by the fact that along with a new middleweight belt, they also created a new set of tag team titles and even had a tournament for those new belts.
