Biography

Lemús, Lemús... many remember that name from somewhere... but WHO is Lemús?

Lemús was Sangre Chicana's first name in wrestling. He used it more or less during a year until he switched to Sangre Chicana keeping the same mask and outfit. Years later after becoming one of Mexico's top drawing cards, Richardson was training at Santos "Guerrero Azteca" Ramos' old "International Gym" and met an aspiring young wrestler during training and workouts. They built a solid friendship, and with the young man was ready to debut (his idea was to be "The Black Gangster") Chicana told him that he had always wanted the Lemús character to come back but that he didn't know how to proceed... but he had finally found a man with good height, weight and a promising future to give the gimmick to!

So with Andres' permission, that man made his ring debut in 1983 during a Batalla Campal (battle royal) at Arena Buenavista in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. After that both Lemús and Chicana appeared in buildings all over: Monterrey in NL, Nuevo Laredo in Tamps., Piedras Negras in Coah... Soon thereafter, Lemús was able to wrestle in San Antonio, TX on Southwest Championship Wrestling. They had a weekly TV show that aired all over TX and into Nuevo Laredo. At the time they didn't showcase many Mexican wrestlers, but Joe Blanchard and Wahoo McDaniel felt that he had the height, weight and style, so he was a regular, wrestling the likes of Ivan Putski, Tiger Conway and others.

A few months later, the UWA World Heavyweight champion Canek made his way into Texas and Lemus went head to head with the man from Tabasco, in what was considered a very good match. Experience, drive and determination and dedication made Lemús a good wrestler and a good worker, who also did well in Mexico, getting stories about him on magazines like "Lucha Libre Mundial" and "Combates de Lucha Libre".

On June 1, 1986, Lemus received a title shot for the Texas heavyweight title (HWA version) in hands of Tom Jones, who wrestled as Mr. Ebony in World Class, based out of Dallas and home of the Von Erich family. On that Sunday at the Tropicana Ball Room in Laredo, TX, Lemús became the champion bringing the prestigious title to Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., which also meant important matches with and against Gran Hamada and Valente Fernández.

For those wondering about it, Laredo, TX and Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. are connected to each other by a bridge across the Rio Grande and since it's an easy walk from San Agustin Plaza in Laredo to the Mexican town, this is the most popular crossing along the entire frontier.

But back to the wrestling, by this point Lemús' agenda was full and was very respected among the fans and promoters he wrestled for because of his work ethic and reliability. During that time, Lemús also had a chance to win the masks of As Negro and Amenaza del Norte, and the cabellera of Flecha Verde. Plus in his debut year, he was nominated "Luchador del Año 1983". He was also tag champion in N. Laredo with Amenaza del Norte, but they had a falling out that was settled with their mask vs. mask match.

At the time, there was an up and coming luchador called Mr. Estrella that was making himself in the business, and to add to the Lemús uproar he was welcomed as Lemús II. They formed an effective team: Lemús I was experienced and smart, Lemús II was rude, young and temperamental and worked hard to succeed at all costs.

A year after, Lemús II made his way into Mexico city to wrestle for EMLL. He had a short run there and on July of 1985 he lost his mask at Arena Coliseo in a match against Fuerza Guerrera, Emilio Charles and El Dandy. He teamed with Los Destructores (Tony Arce and Vulcano) who lost their hair.

The original Lemús kept wrestling all over Texas and Mexican cities near the border, doing action with and against people of the caliber of Super Astro, Anibal, Rayo de Jalisco Sr., Lizmark Sr., Anibal, Perro Aguayo, Gran Markus, Konnan, Apolo Estrada, Climax, El Hombre Araña, Mil Máscaras and many others. To this day he's still active and works occassional spot shows with AAA, often teaming with his good compadre Sangre Chicana.
