A tournament to decide the first national trios tournament started in 1985. The full size and length of the tournament is unknown, though the known matches suggest it took place over a number of weeks. Magazines indicated there were feeder tournaments leading into the main tournament, which may explain the number of teams and matches listed as taken place. The Brazos appear to have been given a bye to the finals as the Promotions Mora representative by virtue of holding the UWA World Trios Championship at the time.
