Biography

Makabre was born on March 31, 1974 in the popular district of San Jerónimo from Monterrey, Nuevo León, but when he was four, his family moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco due to his father's job. There in Guadalajara was when as a kid he became a huge fan of two different athletic activities that were (and are) extremely popular in that area: football (soccer) and lucha libre. At the time, El Santo, Los Villanos, TNT, Canek and many others were regulars at the arenas Coliseo and Jalisco, two buildings that young Makabre used to visit very often.

However, he decided he preferred football over lucha, so he started playing soccer - and he was very good at it. At age 14 he made it to the Jalisco statal team, managed by Diego Mercado who is a former manager of the Mexican national team. He later played in the UAG team, and it was then when the lucha bug finally bit him. He decided to go to the Arena Coliseo (in Guadalajara) gym to see how was it like, and in that year 1990, he started to learn amateur (olympic) wrestling with Gran Cochisse and Diablo Velasco. After a year and seven months learning amateur wrestling only, he started doing the specifical training for professional wrestling. Just four months into his pro lucha training, he had his first match which was an exhibition at the Politechnical University of Guadalajara, under the name of Auris, and using a mask and an outfit designed by his father.

Auris' official debut actually was on October of 1992, at the Arena Oblatos in Guadalajara, and five months later he was ready to start out at Guadalajara's Arena Coliseo. His Coliseo debut was on March 21, 1993, teaming with Eclipse to face Arturo García and Dragón Espacial in the second match of the card.

He wrestled during a year and five months as Auris, but he felt that his efforts were going nowhere as he never got past the first fights, so he quit the business, not feeling bitter but rather upset. Something made him very happy though, as several weeks after his retirement, he received a signed petition to come back from the regular hardcore fans of that building, who missed him a lot.

During his retirement he thought about things and decided that he'd eventually return, so when he received a comeback invitation by the Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara promoters, he saw it was the right time to relaunch his career, now under a new gimmick that would match better his real-life personality. He has always been a rocker at heart, so this way Makabre was born.

Makabre was a rudo from his debut under that name (January of 1995) until he switched sides in July. In May of 1996 he won his first big trophy as he unmasked a wrestler called El Corsario and just two months later he also unmasked El Espacial. As if that wasn't enough, he also won the Occident Lightweight Title after defeating Flash in the finals of a tournament for the vacant title.

1997 also was a very productive year for Makabre. In March he unmasked El Calavera Jr., and on June 22 he defeated Galaxy in a mask vs. mask match featured at the Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara's 39th Anniversary Show. Just a few days later, on July the 6th, he won the National Lightweight title from Eclipse, thus vacated the Occident Lightweight crown. In December he lost the National title to Akira at Arena Coliseo, finishing a cycle in that arena as on January of 1998 he started full time with Promo Azteca.

He was strictly a first or second match of the card wrestler in Promo, and he didn't feel comfortable in that environment so in May he left and returned to Guadalajara. He started out from the bottom, but given his talent it was quick when he rose to the top again. In July of 1999 he won his first hair when he defeated Dakota, and three months later he added another mask to his collection after beating El Infernal. But it was on December 26 when he won his most important match to date - a very bloody and dramatic mask vs. hair meeting with Karloff Lagarde Jr., where the crowd cheered like crazy for the "underdog" local idol against the big league guy, Lagarde.

Makabre wrestled in his hometown of Monterrey for the first time in the year 2000. His style caught on very well with the crowd, and while he has mostly faced local Monterrey wrestlers, he has also had the chance to face big stars like Pimpinela Escarlata, Damian 666, Arkangel, Psicosis (Nicho) or Ultimo Guerrero.

Short term plans for Makabre include keep touring Monterrey to get a chance to shine there. He may not be a very known wrestler now, but keep his name in mind. He's got a really cool modern look and he can hit awesome crazy dives, however we must remember he was trained by Diablo Velasco and like almost all of Diablo's students, he can go at it in the mat with the best. Makabre, who is a big fan of Jerry Estrada, the Hardy Boyz, Dr. Wagner Jr. and The Rock among others, would be an incredible addition to the CMLL or AAA roster, so I guess (and hope) that it's just a matter of time that he hits the big time for good.
