In September 2011, IWRG stripped CIMA of the IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Championship and held a tournament to determine a new champion.

The tournament was September 8, 2011. Sixteen luchadors were included in the tournament. The tournament was held in two stages: a battle royal that elimianted eight luchadors, and a single elimination tournament with the final eight.
