CMLL World Trios Tournament, 2000

CMLL held a one night tournament, on September 8th, 2000, to setup challengers for the CMLL World Trios Championship. It's not clear if a title shot was specifically on the line (or what would've happened if the champions had won), but the winners of the tournament did get a title shot the following week.

The Villanos would get a trios title shot later in the year.

Villanos V was hurt either during the tournament or in the following week, so Rayo de Jalisco Jr. took his spot in the title match. The champions, Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr. retained the titles. Later, after Villano V recovered, the full trio got another shot in December, but still failed to win the titles.
