Silver King and Dr. Wagner Jr. were CMLL World Tag Team Champions in 1997, but the team disbanded and the championship were vacant when Silver King left CMLL. CMLL held a two night, eight team, tournament in Arena Mexico. The opening matches were held on August 22, and the finals were held on August 29.
